The question 'Who am I?' leaves me stumped. According to my medical tests, I am most likely human. Most of the time I put my thoughts into words, draw, take photographs, play music. Sometimes I love being lazy. I'll dedicate a whole separate website to that grand subject!
I've been different things at different times. I've made soap and worked construction. Been a loader, a factory mechanic, a lab technician at an institute, an art historian, and chief accountant of three companies. Without a second thought, I left two universities and one academy, realizing we weren't right for each other. Yes, I didn't pay alimony — but I left them the real estate.
For 17 years I was a TV host, cameraman, and editor of my own author's projects about music and culture. For 10 years I wrote scripts for Evening Urgant. I did a stint on tour with the Scorpions musicians, and we made a small film about it. And when I hear today that modern cinema is so-so, I feel a certain pride — because I had a hand in that, as a screenwriter.
I used to love playing guitar and harmonica in a band, writing songs… We were like the Beatles… only worse. And I dream of doing this hopeless thing again. Because back then and now, my rational mind and I walk on opposite sides of the road. I love taking photographs, and recently I've taken up drawing. I enjoy feeling the process pull me in. I love talking to strangers and giving them their portraits.
And honestly, I'm not all that interested in: who am I? What matters much more is: what am I like? This website is my attempt to answer exactly that question.
